the savage q3 tdm league winners were finally announced last night.
unr held division 1. in the irish standings, bio came 3rd in division 2 and hat taking 2nd in division 3.
i just found this on stomped my guess is its q3 and team arena or q3 with even more fps killing graphics(tm) or maybe q3 with cpm (prays) =d will have to wait till quakecon is on too see if any of those are right so place your bets now!!
you can grab this excellent mod from here. and the list of changes here this version is compatiable with pr 1.27x and 1.29x
this is still a beta, and is only planned to go final after quakecon. anyway here's a list of the stuff changed for your pleasure.
- fixed server exploit
- fixed mouse wheel
- fixed nt 4.0 sound
- fps boost
- in_mouse set to -1 will provide 1.17ish sensitivity, in_mouse set to 1 will provide current sensitivity
you can get it on auto-update. currently it's only on a few mirrors id software and bluesnews.
the first week of the quakelords quakeworld league kicked off yesterday with some excellent games. i won't go into too much detail as you can check it all out on the quakelords site.
unfortunately due to the lack of quake3 clans we can't have a proper quake3 qualifier however most of the dnc quake3 team will there, ther'll be 1v1 quake duels with members of the quake3 team, with spot prizes going to those who can win against the likes of koopa, and some fun games i'm sure, so if you can make it on sunday the details are below :
venue: vicar st. thomas street, dublin 8
(about 10mins walk from temple bar http://www.vicarstreet.com/map.htm )
sunday 29th july
doors open at 11am
the new beta point release here
just spotted this at shackesnews:
id software has sent word that a new release of quake3 is on the way today. v1.29g
which will be made available via the auto-update system if you already installed the 1.29f
release (a lot of people did) or if you're still oldschoolin it with an older version the
ftp will open up at 5pm cst. here's a list of minor bugs that have
been fixed for the new version.
- players joining (and apparently leaving) the game cause
everyone to hitch
- fs_handleforfile: none free error
- no sound in nt 4.0 at all with 1.29f pr
- there is a shader bug in pro-q3dm6
- made /startorbit cheatprotected
- rcon issues now resolved.
- fs_basegame isn't published to clients
- fixedlegs command in the animation config is apparently not working
- + and - cvars fixed
- after last level of tier game doesn't stay on trophy screen, instead it takes you
directly to next tier screen
- developer cheats like r_showtris have been disabled in the pr (they were never disabled,
the user simply needs to run the game with "+set developer 1" minus quotes, at
the command line.
hopefully this one will work right =)
savage have announced that due to lack of sponsorship they are cancelling their lan finals for the european ctf tournament. however, they will be played online. this is a great shame for the teams involved (england, germany, denmark and belgium) and for the ctf community as a whole as there's never been a high profile ctf lan and internet finals will undoubtably effect the results due to ping diferences. (germany and england could suffer most from poorer connections).
cvg report that quake4 is being outsourced by id. here's a quote:
cvg has learnt that raven software, the developer of the ultra-violent first-person shooter soldier of fortune and star trek voyager blaster elite force, has been working on quake 4 for some time. as we reported on july 10, the development of the game was out-sourced by id software for as yet unspecified reasons, but insiders are now pointing to the fact that the legendary developer simply wanted to focus attention on the astonishingly good-looking doom 3.
not sure what to make of this one yet.
i have put up 4 quakeworld servers for sunday so people can have a go on them and see how they are:
good luck and have fun.
i've done a fair bit of background work getting the nice database all calculating/automating
schedules, the lot! (/me is kinda proud of that work!). if you take a look at your schedules for
the next four weeks. i've set it up so there will be two matches for each clan every sunday.
take the time to check your times and if there is changes needed, drop me mail.
with the exception of week 2, all games are being played at 3pm and 4pm. please note, that the
dates for each week are as follows :
week 1 - sunday 29th july
week 2 - sunday 12th august
week 3 - sunday 19th august
week 4 - sunday 26th august
we are skipping the weekend of the 5th of august due to the london cpl clashes with that weekend.
if you have you any problems, let me know.
for now, check out the schedules and tables over on the quakelords page.
apologies for the late noticed on this. my wifes grandfather passed away so its off to funerals 'n stuff. we will start the games next sunday and i will email clan leaders to officially let them know about it.
incidentially, we now have 7 clans. they are :
clan smurf strangely pulled out of the league when they were informed that they had to use proxies to ensure there was no cheating n stuff.
if we can get one more clan, nicky's/damo/von/walt? it will make it a nice 8 teams and we can have two groups. let me know if you can make it please.
bwdml week 1 is over, but unfortunately, with acid gone, the irish presence in the league this season is minimal. i will still report on the clans that are of interest to the irish community, namely bio, hat, fh and bio.hpb. a mouth-watering fixture in div1a between bio and guild was postponed. heres how the other games turned out:
*after playing the first game on solid pings of 70 from croatia, caf's connections turned bad and despite changing servers, they could not get ping below 250 for longer than a few seconds. the dm7 game will be played later in the season.
bigfoot has posted his review of the season 6 tdm league over on quakenation. as with the ctf one it is in two parts with part i being the introduction and
tuesday divisions, whilst part ii looks at the wednesday divisions.
unmatched just defeated ice climbers to take the eurocup title.
dm14: 73-69 u wins
dm6 : 135-175 ic wins
dm7 : 136-109 u wins
cpm4: 120-90 u wins
i just noticed over on mindphuck's column about a letter he wrote to the cpl and his resignation.
go read it here
and all irish clans are out. last season's champions ez had some connection problems and were unlucky to lose to uk in the semi finals. this surprised me as uk have struggled up until now, and only scraped into the semis, being the second qualifier from group 2 after losing to jams and dn originally, and narrowly beating gt 2-1 on two occasions. dn beat icp in the semis, and will face uk in the final. read more on the ecal website.
silicon ice have released the hotly awaited 2.1 patch for their urban terror mod for q3.
details on the urban terror website, along with a selection of download links. you can get the patch on the q.ie mirror.
don't forget that the clanbase's eurocup finals are on this weekend coming in amsterdam.
expect to see live coverage from irc with scorebots and q3 gtv's. there will also be a shoutcast coverage, which, if i remember well at eurocup 2, godsmurf owned the mic with superb coverage.
anyway, for more details, check out the clanbase page. btw, is anyone one going over to *ahem* watch it in amsterdam ?
bigfoot has posted his season 6 preview on quakenation, it's in 2
parts as it's a bit long but hopefully you will find it entertaining and
perhaps even of some use in working out what to expect from your opponents.
bio (div1) come into this division as div2 champions last season, and whilst it is hard to see them challenging the previous 5 sides i've mentioned and wr/xyz, they *should* be good enough to avoid the drop. that said they will need to pick up the odd few points against those top half sides and have yet to do anything to suggest they are capable of doing this in other competitions.
ts (div 2a) could be the surprise of this division. having added godsmurf and acronym to their squad in the latter stages of last season they might have lost one or two players to the summer uni holidays but should still have a tight unit. they finished 2nd last season in div3b and whilst it was a close run thing between them and 2 other clans i think they deserved the promotion place. (heh, i told you i was gonna pimp my clan)
fh (div 3c) are one of the many new sides in the league who find themselves in this division, in what i believe is their first ctf league. indeed, i cannot find any ctf form for them at all, but their dm form is reasonably good and they have been practicing so perhaps a side to watch out for.
signups for the quakelords quakeworld team deathmatch league are now open. get your team signed up.
the cpm allstars exhibition will take place tonight, at 8 pm. be in #cpmallstar on quakenet for live coverage, gtv ip's and scorebots. speaking of gtv, quakenation reports that there is a newer version of fonfon's gtv program, just for the event. heartaxe, the man behind the games is really excited about getting the whole thing up and running smoothly. the players for the games tonight will be :
you will of course need the latest version of cpma. the maps selected are dm6tmp, dm14tmp and cpm4, so you don't need to download the promode map packs. games are going to start on time, so i suggest you get your butts into #cpmallstar well before 8pm to get your ring side seats!

you can check out the upper bracket and the lower brackets for more details on results of games and forthcoming matches.
the gtv's are as follows :
some people have asked me how to view the games. so here's a quick tutorial.
you will of course need quakeworld and qizmo.
create a shortcut like so -
d:\quake\qizmo\qizmo.exe d:\quake\glqwcl.exe -window
(use the -window if you want to watch it in windowed mode and chat on irc at the same
time. this works great for gl users)
- run that shortcut and it will launch both qizmo and quakeworld.
- in the console type .connect archroy.barrysworld.com:27500
- create a bind - bind enter "say proxy:menu select"
- select the client list menu
- it will give you a list of connections to the server.
- now, scroll down through the client list and look for, say, cpl-cam
- press right arrow when you have highlighted the appropriate client connection so it
highlights the observe menu
- you then hit your bind (enter for this example) to select that client to connect to.
- voila! your viewing.
it is important that you do not select the client whilst hightlighted on the follow
menu, otherwise, you will have to start again if you do. some usefull commands are
,clients (shows you the client list menu)
,observe #x (lets you observe client no.x, where x is the client number shown)
there is a new site called the black list which specializes in catching counter-strike cheaters. one of quake's favorite gamers, ck-fatal1ty is listed as someone who broke the rules. is this paranoia reaching new standards?
